Detailed step-by-step plan |
Step 1: Clean. |
Wet the teak thoroughly. Apply the Teak Cleaner with salt or the Premium Teak Cleaner. Apply and let it sit briefly. Scrub along the wood grain and rinse thoroughly with clean water. |
Step 2: De-graying & Neutralizing. |
Use a special Sadira Teak Brightener to restore the original warm color of the teak wood and thoroughly remove any weathering or stains. Let it work in again and rinse well. |
Step 3: Drying & Sealing. |
Allow the wood to dry completely. Then apply a protective layer, such as the Sadira Teak Sealer or the Sadira Teak Oil, to make the teak wood water- and dirt-repellent. |
Brush usage and scrubbing tips |
Always use a soft to medium-hard brush to scrub teak wood. (such as a soft hand broom or a special teak wood brush).
Why a soft brush? Click here for the complete brush range .
Prevent wear and tear: |
Teak wood consists of soft and hard grain. A brush that is too hard (or a steel brush) brushes away the soft grain, causing the wood to become rough and ribbed. |
Dirt adhesion: |
The rougher the surface, the faster algae, moss, and dirt can adhere to the wood in the future. |
No pressure washer: |
Also, never use a high-pressure cleaner; this will permanently destroy the wood structure. |
Important cleaning tip!!
Always scrub across the grain (or in gentle, circular motions). If you scrub along the grain, you will actually pull the soft wood fibers loose.
Crucial drying rules |
After scrubbing and cleaning, teak wood must dry for at least 24 hours before applying a protective agent or sealer. |
Wood must be thoroughly dry: |
Teak wood retains moisture for a long time in the deeper grain. Even if the outside feels dry, the inside can still be damp. |
Danger of sealing too early: |
If you apply a sealer (such as Sadira Teak Sealer (step 3) or Sadira Teak Oil (step 3)) to damp wood, you trap the moisture. Teak wood maintenance: oil, sealer, or varnish leads to poor adhesion. |
Ideal conditions: |
Allow the wood to dry in a well-ventilated place. Preferably apply the sealer on a warm, dry, and sunny day. |
Drying times during sealing |
First layer: |
Apply Sadira Teak Sealer or oil thinly with a brush or roller. Remove excess product after approx. 30 minutes. |
Second layer: |
Apply any second coat only after 24 hours. (1 day) dry on. |
Curing: |
Leave the teak undisturbed for at least 24 hours after the last coat. before you load it or expose it to rain |
